Family Friendly Canyoning Adventure – Abraham Lake

Perfect for those with young children and no previous experience who want a family friendly canyoning adventure!

During this excursion, you will rappel down waterfalls, climb rocks walls, and traverse streams under the guidance of trained professionals.  This is an exciting way to experience the natural beauty of Alberta and the Rocky Mountains.

Your guide will determine how everybody feels about heights and find the canyon that is best suited to your group. (If need be, tours with jumps and slides can be avoided).

• You’ll meet your guide at David Thompson Resort and follow your guide the last few kilometres to the parking area of the canyon.
• You will have a quick chat with your guide to discuss the tour progression, equipment and safety.
• You’ll hike to the upper entrance of the canyon (usually between 30 and 60 minutes of hiking).
• You’ll descend the canyon. Depending on the tour and the size of the group, you’ll spend between 1:30 and 2:30 hours inside the canyon.
• At the bottom of the canyon route, the group will hike back to the car.

Canyoning is a sport that involves descending through water routes such as creeks, rivers, and streams using a variety of techniques including hiking, swimming, abseiling / rappelling, jumping, sliding, and scrambling.

• Explore a scenic canyon and work your way down as a team.
• Learn the art of canyon rappelling.
• You are aways be supported by your expert guide.
• Encounter some waterfalls and other obstacles that you will navigate using specific canyoning techniques (Get ready to be wet during the whole descent. No swimming is involved).

• A qualified guide with recognized certification.
• All safety equipment including a wetsuit, dry backpack, harness, belay device and lanyards.

Need to know:

• The meeting time and the end of the day can be arranged depending on your expectations, the size of the group, and the conditions of the canyon.
• You will need to possess moderate physical fitness.
• Rappels can be up to 8 meters.
• The minimum number of participants is 2. Maximum of 8 participants.
• Children as young as 8 years old are welcome, but parents are responsible for ensuring their kids' behavior. The hiking portion of the tour tends to be the most challenging for young participants.
• Minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
• Minimum height limit is 4’6”.
• Maximum harness waist size is 42.
• What to bring: bathing suit, towel, running or light hiking shoes that can go in water, windbreaker, light rain or hardshell jacket, water (1 litre), and a small lunch or snacks.
• A personal vehicle is required to drive yourself to the meeting point / trailhead.
