Adrenaline Canyoning Tour – Abraham Lake, AB

This Adrenaline Canyoning Tour is for those who have never been canyoning before, or only a few times before. The tours are usually between 5 to 6 hours depending on the size of the group.

You should be comfortable with heights and possess good physical fitness, though your guide can accommodate those in the group that are less at ease and looking to challenge themselves. However, all rappels are mandatory once you are descending the canyon. All jumps and slides can be avoided by rappelling them (if the canyon has these).

You’ll be guided through a multitude of canyons that are navigable. The tour provider usually plans the trip the day before the tour to decide which canyon is best suited to the group.

• You’ll meet your canyoning guide at David Thompson Resort where you’ll discuss the tour progression, equipment and safety.
• You’ll hike up to the upper entrance of the canyon (usually between 30 and 90 minutes of hiking).
• Next, you’ll descend into the canyon (between 2 and 4 hours inside the canyon, depending on the tour and the size of the group).
• You’ll rappel a maximum of 15 metres.
• At the bottom of the canyon route, you’ll hike back to the car (30 minutes).
• You may have to climb a few via-ferrata ladders to access the canyon (A minimum of upper body strength is required for this).
• Be prepared to be fully submerged during this trip. The tour provider can accommodate people who don’t know how to swim with advance notice. You will encounter some waterfalls and other obstacles that will be navigated using specific canyoning techniques.
• You don’t need to have previous experience, just a sense of adventure. Your expert guides will teach you the rest and always be there for support.

• The minimum age for participation is 14 years.
• The minimum number of participants is 2.
• The maximum number of participants on the tour is 12.
• Minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
• Minimum height limit is 4’6”.
• Maximum harness waist size is 42.
• What to bring: bathing suit, towel, running or light hiking shoes that can go in water, windbreaker, light rain or hardshell jacket, water (1 litre), and a small lunch or snacks.
• A personal vehicle is required to drive yourself to the meeting point / trailhead.
