Calgary Clue Solving Adventures

Let Calgary become your playground! 

Using a smartphone or tablet as your personal tour guide, this is an activity with an interactive twist - an opportunity to join friends and family in uncovering downtown Calgary hot spots, test your knowledge, and have lots of fun.

Your Clue Solving Adventure will lead you on a route through downtown Calgary. These adventure games combine the fun of a scavenger hunt with the clue-solving challenge of an escape room and then adds the excitement of racing against the clock.

These scavenger hunt style adventure are great for families, friends, and groups. Choose to race or simply enjoy the experience as you tour Calgary. It’s entirely up to you!

How it works:

• You’ll receive a series of clues on the free APP. Each clue will guide you to a new location where you'll find a hidden word or solve a puzzle.
• Along the way, you'll visit local icons, experience stunning scenery and uncover hidden places.
• Once you’ve registered your adventure and selected your start date with the tour provider, you’ll receive an email with the instructions and the access code. This happens after you’ve activated your experience on Breakaway Experiences’ website.
• Download the free APP and use the access code to activate your adventure.
• Clues are sequential and written assuming you have no knowledge of the town.
• Submit the correct answer and you will immediately get the next clue. Don’t worry, hints and directions are available but they’ll cost you a time penalty.
• Complete all the clues and solve the final mystery!
• Suggested team size is 2-5 players. The game is most fun when working with other people to find and solve clues.

1. Sculpted in Time

Explore the vibrancy of Stephen Ave and The CORE, as well as the hidden art and history of Calgary's Downtown. A renowned sculptor has been commissioned by the city of Calgary to create a new piece of art called ‘Sculpted in Time’ celebrating Calgary's rich history. At the last minute an unscrupulous local rival has stolen the designs. Follow a trail of clues around the city that will lead to where the plans are hidden!

• Start location: Downtown Calgary
• Start time: Start any day any time.
• Walking distance: Approximately 3 kms, flat streets in downtown. Lots of pubs, restaurants and shops on the route with several optional game breaks.
• Average time to complete: 2 to 2.5 hours.
• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family and pet friendly. The clues can be quite challenging and we recommend playing with adults.

2. Riotous Roundup 

An indoor adventure! Chase around Calgary’s indoor +15 system rounding up a menagerie of escaped animals. Follow a trail of clues  to find the animals and save the day!

• Start location: Downtown Calgary's indoor pathways in the +15 system.
• Start time:  Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm. The game is restricted by the opening hours of the +15 and the Core shopping centre.
• Walking distance: 2.5 kms with several escalators.
• Average time to complete: 90 minutes.
• What you need:  At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family friendly - kids themed.

3. The Wizards of Inglewood

A magical Clue Solving adventure through the historic and eclectic streets of Iinglewood! Can you help a Grand Master wizard thwart a group of renegade mages from brewing a deadly potion, by finding the ingredients before they do?

• Start location: Inglewood neighbourhood, Calgary
• Start time: Start any day any time.
• Walking distance:  2 kms, flat walking on city streets with several restaurant and pub options en route, plus two breweries.
• Average time to complete: 2 hours.
• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family and pet friendly. The clues can be quite challenging and we recommend playing with adults.

4. Banshees of the Beltline

A fun clue solving adventure exploring the historic buildings and vibrant pubs and shops of Calgary's Beltline. Do YOU have what it takes to solve a historical mystery and uncover WHO the Banshees of the Beltline really are? This adventure will lead you through diverse neighbourhoods and vibrant shopping and entertainment areas.

• Start location: Calgary's Beltline area.
• Start time: Start any day any, time.
• Walking distance:  4.3 kms flat sidewalks in downtown Calgary with lots of pubs, shops, and restaurants along the route, with several optional game breaks.
• Average time to complete: 2 to 2.5 hours.
• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family and pet friendly. The clues can be quite challenging and we recommend playing with adults.

5. The City Hall Heist

Explore the bustle of Stephen Avenue and its surrounding areas, as your clues uncover the city’s hidden history and eateries. Sinister rivals from another city broke into City Hall and have managed to gain access to the power grid. Only by solving a series of clues hidden around the streets of downtown Calgary can you save the city.

• Start location: Stephen Avenue, Calgary
• Start time: Start any day any, time.
• Walking distance:  1.4 km of flat sidewalks in downtown Calgary with lots of pubs, shops, and restaurants along the route, with several optional game breaks.
• Average time to complete: 60 - 90 minutes
• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family and pet friendly. The clues can be quite challenging and we recommend playing with adults.

6. The Kensington Caper

A very different (and even more fun) way to explore Calgary's unique urban village and its surrounding area. A new film festival is about to start tonight with ‘The Kensington Caper’. The theatre manager has lost the guest list. Do you have what it takes to find the guest list and save the day?

• Start location: Kensington, Calgary
• Start time: Start any day any, time.
• Walking distance:  3.3 km of flat path and paved trails, with a few stairs.Lots of pubs, shops, and restaurants along the route, with several optional game breaks.
• Average time to complete: 90 minutes to 2 hours
• What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+) and footwear for walking around town. Dress for the weather.
• Children:  This adventure is family and pet friendly. The clues can be quite challenging and we recommend playing with adults.

• You are not required to buy anything, however there will be multiple opportunities for shopping and dining if you'd like.
• Please ensure that your phone is charged before you start. Additional phones can be added at no extra cost.
• Data plans are only used to activate the adventure and are not used during play.
• If your battery is weak bringing a phone charger is a good idea. You can charge your phone by speaking to the businesses during scheduled breaks.
