Using a smartphone or tablet as your personal tour guide, this is a scavenger hunt style game with an interactive twist - an opportunity with family and friends to discover downtown Toronto hot spots, test your knowledge, and have lots of fun.
These clue-solving adventure games combine the challenge of a scavenger hunt with the clue-solving challenge of an escape room and then adds the excitement of racing against the clock. They are great for families, friends, and groups.
Choose to race or simply enjoy the experience as you tour Toronto. It’s entirely up to you!
How it works:
- Suggested team size is 2-5 players. The game is most fun when working with other people to find and solve clues.
- The adventure is played using the Mystery Towns App. You will need a charged smartphone (iPhone 5S or newer; Android 4.4 or later).
- You’ll receive a series of clues on the free APP. Each clue will guide you to a new location where you'll find a hidden word or solve a puzzle.
- Along the way, you'll visit local icons, experience stunning scenery, and uncover hidden places.
- Once you’ve registered your adventure and selected your start date with the tour provider, you’ll receive an email with the instructions and the access code. This happens after you’ve activated your experience on Breakaway Experiences’ website.
- Download the free APP and use the access code to activate your adventure.
- Clues are sequential and written assuming you have no knowledge of downtown Toronto.
- Submit the correct answer and you will immediately get the next clue. Don’t worry, hints and directions are available … but they’ll cost you a time penalty.
- Complete all the clues and solve the final mystery!

1. The Beasts of Bloor Street - Explore the vibrant streets and leafy avenues of Toronto’s Annex district and Bloor Street as you track down a menagerie of escaped animals.

2. To Catch a Thief! - Explore Toronto’s vibrant downtown area as you unravel an intriguing mystery and try to prevent a major heist!

• Walking distance: 4km mostly on flat roads with a few stairs.
• Average time to complete: 2 to 2.5 hours
• Challenge level: Moderate / Challenging - a mix of visual and cryptic clues to keep you on your toes
3. Colours of Kensington - A fun mystery set amid the hustle & bustle of Kensington Market.
• Start location: Kensington Market, Toronto

• Walking distance: Approximately 1.1km on paved streets
• Average time to complete: 60 - 90 minutes
• Challenge level: Easier
4. Distilled Distractions - A distillery-themed race against the clock thru the alleyways of one of Toronto's most historic districts.

5. Mansions & Markets - A great way to explore Toronto's historic and often undiscovered old downtown buildings, as well as an iconic area of shopping and dining.

6. Sculptures of the Mind - Discover the lesser-known artwork and architecture that can be found in Toronto's historic downtown core.

Need to know:
- These adventures are great for families with kids 10+. Also pet friendly.
- You will need at least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+).
- Dress for the weather with +) and footwear for walking around town.
- You are not required to buy anything, however there will be multiple opportunities for shopping and dining if you'd like.
- Please ensure that your phone is charged before you start. Additional phones can be added at no extra cost.
- Data plans are only used to activate the adventure and are not used during play.
- If your battery is weak bringing a phone charger is a good idea.
