This scavenger hunt style adventure is a great experience for families, friends, and groups. You can race against the clock or simply saunter along as you enjoy the experience. How you explore Fort Langley and solve the mystery is entirely up to you!
Using a smartphone or tablet as your “tour guide”, friends and family can join you in testing your knowledge, uncover unknown hotspots, and have lots of fun! You will solve clues with each clue leading you on an easy walk to a new location where you'll find an important photo and uncover some secrets that even the locals don’t know about.
Your Fort Langley clue solving adventure: Birth of a Province
In the mid-1800s, Fort Langley was one of the Hudson’s Bay Company’s most important trading posts in the west. According to legend, a senior HBC clerk kept a seemingly innocuous private ledger that was actually a record of witnesses and signatories to an unacknowledged agreement made at Fort Langley in the early 1850s - one that secretly coordinated the actions that led to British Columbia formally becoming a Province. The question is, do YOU have what it takes to follow trail of clues to discover the names?
- Start time: It is flexible! Start any day any time.
- Walking distance: Approximately 2.7km on mostly flat walking on paved sidewalks with a few short hills.
- Average time to complete: 90 minutes to 2 hours
- Level of difficulty: This experience is family and pet friendly. However, the clues can be quite challenging and we therefore recommend playing with adults.
- What you need: At least one fully charged cellphone per team (we advise 2+). Dress for the weather and wear footwear suitable for walking around town.

How it works:
- You’ll receive a series of clues on the free APP. Each clue will guide you to the next location where you'll find a hidden word or solve a puzzle.
- Along the way, you'll visit local icons, uncover hidden places, and experience stunning scenery.
- Once you’ve registered your adventure and selected your start date with the tour provider, you will receive an email with the instructions and the access code. This happens after you’ve activated your experience on Breakaway Experiences’ website.
- Download the free APP and use the access code to activate your adventure.
- Clues are sequential and written assuming you have no knowledge of the town.
- Submit the correct answer and you will immediately get the next clue. Don’t worry, hints and directions are available, but they’ll cost you a time penalty!
- Solve all the clues and solve the final mystery!
Need to know:
- The game is most fun when working with other people to find and solve clues. Suggested team size is 2 - 5 players.
- You are not required to buy anything along the route.
- Please ensure that your cellphone is charged before you begin. You are only required to use the phone for the App.
- Data plans are only used to activate the adventure and are not used during play.
- Additional phones may be added at no extra cost.
- Bringing a phone charger is a good idea if your battery is low or weak.
