Come out for two hours of fun and adventure as you learn to how to build a shelter, fire making and much more.
Discover the essential skills for survival in the wilderness.
This wilderness survival workshop is designed so you can enjoy the experience and take home some valuable information and have a greater understanding of survival techniques. With some knowledge of basic wilderness survival skills plus a little confidence you can survive almost anywhere!
During this 2-hour hands-on workshop, your instructor will teach you basic necessities like building a shelter and making fire. Throughout the class you will have the opportunity to practice the skills you learn.
Fire starting: Your instructor will guide you through learning to use ferrocerium rods to make fire a variety of ways, including making a fire using materials found on the countryside. Once you have mastered the basic fire making techniques, you can try your hand using more primitive methods of fire starting such as the bow drill.
You will learn to make fire using 3 different methods:
- Ferrocerium rods & cotton balls
- Ferrocerium rods with natural tinder
- Bow drill
Shelter building: You will learn to build primitive survival shelters using materials found in nature along with tarps. This is much more challenging than you would think!
When: Available year-round Sundays at 1:00pm
Duration: 2 hours
Need to know:
- No previous experience is required.
- Minimum age for participation is 12 years old.
- Lessons run in most weather conditions, but may be cancelled due to extreme cold or other unsafe conditions. In the event of a weather cancellation the experience provider will be rescheduled.
- Please wear multiple layers in cold weather.
