Explore the best breweries in Toronto.

The Old Toronto Beer Tour is the original all-day premium beer tour that explores Toronto against the backdrop of the city’s rich brewing heritage, both present and past. You’ll learn about the art of brewing and Toronto's distilling and brewing heritage with visits and tastings at four of Toronto's iconic craft breweries: Steam Whistle, Mill Street, Izumi Sake Brewery and Amsterdam.

Tour itinerary:

  • Steam Whistler Brewery - Located just south of Rogers Centre in Toronto's historic railway 'Roundhouse', you’ll experience a special VIP tour. Following the VIP tour, you’ll enjoy a charcuterie style lunch coupled with a refreshing “unfiltered” Steam Whistle Pilsner.
  • Fort York- The birthplace of Toronto and home to the oldest buildings in the city. Soldiers in the British Army were allotted 'six pints a day' as part of their daily pay. This is where the history of beer in Toronto truly begins.
  • On the way to the next brewery destination, you'll hear stories of Toronto's Brewing Heritage as you pass the Canada Malting Silos, recently designated a Toronto heritage building; Toronto's oldest tavern; the site of the original Toronto Molson "Fleet Street" Brewery as well as other points of historic and architectural interest.
  • Corktown – During a brief stop, you'll re-discover some of the city’s 'lost breweries' along with some interesting examples of the Toronto's historic architecture.
  • The Distillery Historic District - A virtual city within a city and is regarded by many as the finest example of Victorian Industrial architecture in North America. Red cobblestoned streets and alleyways lead to interesting shops, galleries, and your two next stops - the Mill Street Brewery Beer Hall and the Ontario Spring Water Sake Brewery.
  • Ontario Spring Water Sake Brewery - Technically a brewery, the Ontario Spring Water Sake Company is the first sake brewery in eastern North America and a unique addition to the artisan scene in Toronto. They use traditional Japanese methods and recipes combined with the highest quality rice and delicious Ontario spring water. You’ll learn about this authentic Sake process and enjoy a tutored tasting of 3 different variations of this unique brew.
  • Mill Street Brewery - Housed in an old 'Tankhouse' within the 19th century Gooderham & Worts Distillery District, Mill Street Brewery combines the ambiance of an upbeat urban bar with that of a traditional German 'Bier Stube. Here you'll be sampling Mill Street's award-winning Ales, Lagers and an authentic 'Bier Schnapps' made in their new copper nano distillery.
  • After Mill Street Brewery, you'll have some free time to hang out in the Beer Hall or to explore the "Distillery District" and visit wonderful shops like SOMA Chocolates, ARTA Gallery and Corktown Designs jewelry or possibly Balzacs where you can take a beer break and enjoy a great cup of coffee.
  • Amsterdam Brewing Company - Toronto’s oldest original micro-brewery. The Amsterdam Brewery is praised for their eclectic range of beers that includes dark ales, traditional lagers, barrel-aged and fruit-infused beer. You will partake in the final "tutored tasting" of a broad selection of available Amsterdam brews.
  • Beer Lovers' Dinner option at the Granite Brewery: For those going on the Old Toronto Beer Tour that includes the 4-course dinner option, you’ll have a chance to sample the unique qualities of the Granite Brewery's authentic cask-conditioned traditional top-fermented ales, in combination with a fabulous 4-course beer dinner.
