The Welland Canal, one of the amazing man-made wonders of the world, was originally constructed in 1829 to link Lake Erie with Lake Ontario. 42 km (27 miles). As part of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the canal allows ships to avoid Niagara Falls by traversing the Niagara Escarpment. Learn about this modern marvel and the vital role it plays in the region on a 1 or 2 hour guided Segway tour. Taking a Segway tour is a great family activity. They are super easy to learn and you can cover a lot of ground in a short time. Your tour begins with a quick training session at the Lock 3 Museum, allowing each participant to get comfortable with their Segway before starting the tour. Following your guide, you’ll travel along the canal on a peaceful and dedicated path. On the 1-hour tour you'll learn about the history of the Welland Canal, an engineering marvel, while riding alongside it. On the 2-hour tour, you'll go all the way to Lock 7, the highest lock on the canal and visit the Fallen Workers Memorial and Murals of Thorold. In addition to navigating, your guide will enlighten you with local stories and facts often missed by visitors about the Canal’s history, and ensure you have plenty of time for photos.
