This Survival Hike in Kananaskis Country is a great way for families to get out into nature and learn some of the basic skills to surviving in the wilderness.Your experienced guided will share a wealth of knowledge and teach you the basic so you'll be able to survive almost anywhere.
Beginning at 9:30 am, you will join your guide on a leisurely 5km hike or snowshoe through a beautiful forest. Along the way, you’ll learn about the wildlife that call Kananaskis their home and how to follow and analyze animal tracks and signs. Your guide will show you a variety of wild edibles and teach you what to do should you encounter a bear.
Once you reach the waterfall, you’ll learn how to start a fire without a lighter, using materials you collected on the hike. With the fire you started, you will feel like one of the original explorers of the wild west as you sip a tea made from local plants.
On the way back, your family/group will be challenged to build a shelter using basic emergency supplies. As a group, you will discuss the best place to build a shelter and what to look for should you ever need to survive in the backcountry. Your guide will offer you feedback as you, together, build the shelter.
