Historic Li-lik-hel Mine 3-Day Horseback Riding Expedition

Discover the awe-inspiring landscapes nestled between Birkenhead Lake and the historic Li-lik-hel mine and gain insight into the life the miners for gold led. You’ll ride by horse on trails originally cut by the miners and have been worn by years of horses hauling gold ore to the railhead in the early 1900’s.

Your adventure begins Friday morning at the home ranch in Pemberton and ends Sunday afternoon. During this time, you’ll explore the beautiful mountain range between Birkenhead Lake and the Li-lik-hel mine. Rivers, lakes, forests, alpine meadows, old mine packhorse trails and single track await your exploration. Sure-footed gentle mountain horses will take you to the base camp. Your guides will set up and cook dinner around the campfire.

Over the three days you will get to know your horse who has been picked to match your abilities.

Bright and early on the first day of the expedition, the ranch will drive you to the trail head from the ranch in Pemberton where you’ll meet your horse and guides. The first day you will be riding 15 kilometers to the base camp passing by a recent mine claim exploration. At the camp you will then meet up with your luggage.  The base camp is equipped with outdoor plumbing and a hot shower along with tents mounted on platforms to provide that extra level of comfort for you.

The next day, you will ride to the Li-lik-hel mine where you can explore the original mine site and learn how the old hard rock miners extracted gold ore as they followed the veins in the rock. From the base camp, you can also enjoy horseback rides to a variety of locations of interest.

Each day ends with comfortable tent lodgings and campfires.

On the third day you will ride out and be back at the ranch by 5 pm.

• Minimum age for participation is 7 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
• Minimum height requirement is 4 feet (48 inches).
• Maximum rider weight permitted is 275lbs.
• The level of your riding ability will be matched to the character of the horse chosen for you. The horses are very good with guests of all riding abilities.
• Please wear long pants and closed-toed boots or shoes, preferably with heels.
