From it’s humble beginnings as a fur trading outpost, Victoria has evolved into having the largest and most vibrant Chinatown in North America. Your tour begins at the historic Hudson Bay Building, now the home of the bustling Victoria Public Market. Here you will get a tour of the market that includes a savoury handpie from Pie Co., a coffee from a local roaster, and some curried delights from Sutra an Indian café owned by one of Canada’s most famous chefs, Vikram Vij.
Next, the tour will make its way to historic Chinatown where you will tour the hidden alleys (including the famous Fan Tan Alley) and sample a French macaron and modern Korean style steamed buns. Your tour then heads to Market Square and Old Town, once the commercial capital of the city in the late 1800s, to see the revitalized buildings that once housed the rowdy hotels and opium dens that dominated the area in the late 1800s. You’ll stop at the farm-to-table restaurant Hawk & Hen for a local Philips craft beer and some locally sourced food. The tour continues to Bastion Square, the original home of Fort Victoria. Your tour ends on a sweet note with a pastry from Rebar a popular cafe that has been serving up delicious healthy fare in Victoria since 1988.
